A jewel of the Russian art created to be admired. Many outstanding people famous in Russia and the whole world liked to spend their spare time in Peterhof. After its recent restoration, Peterhof ... excelent!

Here're the main highlights of "Russian Versailles":

Grand Palace - connecting link between the Upper Park and the Lower Park built for Peter the Great by the eminent architects: Braunstein, Leblond, Michetti and later remodeled to its present baroque glory by Bartolomeo Rastrelli.

Monplaisir - the favorite haunt of Peter the Great with bright and airy galleries facing the sea.

Marly Palace - unpretentious two-storey building with a mansard roof embellished by balconies with elaborate wrought - iron railings bearing the monogram of Peter the Great. It was so called by the tsar after his visit to the hunting lodge of the French kings at Marly le Rois demolished at the close of the 18th century.

Grand Cascade - standing on a marble terrace facing the sea you will have a magnificent view of the Grand Cascade - symphony in water, organically connected with the Grand Palace. Waterfalls, beautiful sculptures, guilded bas - reliefs, water tumbling out of the mouths of dolphins into a pool in the center of which a sculpture of Samson Rending the Jaws of the Lion Apart towers on a massive pedestal of ashlar overwhelming a visitor, filling his heart with joy.

Trick - fountains is the amusing part of the Lower Park. The seemingly innocuous tree or an umbrella - like canopy may suddenly be transformed into a plethora of showers causing a visitor to flee to the amusement of those strolling around.

Peterhof is worth seeing. But a man cannot live on beautiful views alone. That's why tea, cofee and beer are included. We wish you the Emperor's impressions!
